Recipe FAQ
Deviled eggs can be traced back to Ancient Rome where the wealthy served boiled eggs seasoned with saucy spices before meals. The name however comes from the 1800s where the term "deviling" describes foods cooked with spicy seasonings or cooked over high heat.
The filling made of mostly egg yolks is very high in healthy fats, making it very rich. The vinegar helps to cut through the fat making it less overwhelmingly rich and allowing for the other flavors to come through. Vinegar also adds a bit of tang to the dish.
Deviled eggs make a great appetizer, because they are an easy finger-food.
