Expert Tips & Variations
- Use cold butter. Cold butter is essential for biscuit dough. The cold butter in the dough melts while baking to create flaky layers.
- Chill the dough. If you have time, chill the dough for 10 minutes before baking. This will help create even flakier biscuits. You can skip this step if pressed for time, but the biscuits may not be as flaky as they could be.
- Slowly add the milk to the gravy. When making the gravy, you want to slowly add milk to the skillet and stir the milk in before adding more. This allows the gravy to thicken properly creating a creamy, thick gravy.
How to Store Biscuits and Gravy
- Refrigerator - store the gravy in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
- Freezer - We recommend storing the biscuits in an airtight container or bag in the freezer to keep them from drying out. Store the gravy in a freezer-safe container for up to a month.
