Ingredients
Apple Filling
- 1 Tablespoon butter
- 4 apples
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 Tablespoon flour
Cobbler Batter
- 1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cane sugar
- 1 Tablespoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 stick butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
- Peel, core, slice and dice the apples.
- Place a saute pan on the stovetop and turn the burner to medium heat.
- Add 1 Tablespoon butter and allow the butter to melt.
- Pour the apples, brown sugar and cinnamon into the pan and stir to combine.
- Allow the apples to cook until softened.
- Add 1 Tablespoon flour to the apples and stir to mix the flour into the apples.
- Turn the burner off and move the pan off of the heat.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk 1 cup flour, cane sugar, baking powder and salt together.
- Pour the milk into the bowl and whisk to combine to form a smooth batter. Set the batter aside.
- Place a stick of butter in the cast iron skillet.
- Transfer the skillet to the oven and allow the butter to melt.
- Remove the skillet from the oven when the butter is melted completely.
- Pour the batter into the skillet over the melted butter. Do not mix the batter into the butter.
- Scoop the apple filling into the skillet on top of the batter. Do not stir the apple filling into the batter.
- Transfer the skillet back into the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes at 375 degrees.
- Remove the skillet from the oven when the cobbler is slightly golden-brown.
- Allow the cobbler to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving topped with ice cream and caramel sauce.
