- Noodles - We use store-bought lasagna noodles, but you can use homemade noodles.
- Venison Meat Sauce - The meat sauce is made with ground venison, an onion, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt and pasta sauce.
- Ricotta - Ricotta cheese is a classic lasagna ingredient and helps to hold the lasagna together. We like to whisk an egg and ricotta together to keep the ricotta from oozing out of the dish.
- Mozzarella - We recommend using freshly grated mozzarella cheese for our lasagna.

How to Make the Recipe
Step 1. Pour a layer of sauce over the bottom of the dish and place a layer of noodles on top.
Step 2. Spread a layer of ricotta & cheese over the noodles.
Step 3. Pour a layer of meat sauce over the cheese.
Step 4. Repeat the layering process and finish with a layer of sauce and cheese on top.
Step 5. Bake the lasagna in the oven.

Venison Lasagna
This venison lasagna is a classic lasagna recipe made with layers of noodles, cheese and a flavorful venison meat sauce for a filling and delicious home-cooked dinner.
Ingredients
- 1lb ground venison
- 1 medium-size onion, finely diced
- 2 Tablespoons minced garlic
- 1 Tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 2 24-oz jars of pasta sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1-lb package lasagna noodles
- 16-oz ricotta
- 1 egg
- 2lbs mozzarella, freshly grated
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
- Fill a large pot halfway full with water. Place on the stovetop and bring the water to a boil.
- When the water begins to boil, add the lasagna noodles to the pot and boil according to the package instructions.
- When the noodles are done boiling, drain them from the water and set aside.
- Add the ground venison to a cast iron skillet with the diced onion and garlic. Cook to brown the meat.
- Add the pasta sauce to the skillet but reserve ¼ cup of the sauce.
- Add the Italian seasoning and salt to the skillet and stir to mix the meat sauce together.
- Place the burner on low and allow the sauce to cook for 5 minutes.
- In a small bowl, whisk the ricotta and an egg together.
- When the meat sauce is finished cooking, assemble the lasagna.
- Pour the reserved ¼ cup pasta sauce into a 9x13 baking dish to cover the bottom of the dish.
- Lay lasagna noodles over the sauce to cover the sauce.
- Spread ⅓ of the ricotta mixture over the noodles.
- Sprinkle a handful of mozzarella cheese over the ricotta.
- Pour another layer of meat sauce on top of the cheese.
- Continue to layer the lasagna with noodles, ricotta, cheese, and meat sauce.
- Top the final layer of noodles with meat sauce followed by a layer of mozzarella cheese.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and place it in the oven to bake for 45 minutes at 375 degrees.
- After 45 minutes, remove the foil and place the lasagna back into the oven to bake for 10 minutes uncovered.
- Remove the dish from the oven and allow it to cool for 15-20 minutes to allow the lasagna to set-up before serving.
